In 2014 the Viasat Creative design team were approached to rebrand Viasat’s factual channels ‘History’, ‘Explore’ and ‘Nature’. The top brass wanted to unify the brands, from logo design to on-air branding. When it came to the idents however they were keen to reinforce each channel’s distinct identity.
The emphasis of the new Explore logo was the ‘E’, and Viasat were keen to make the ‘E’ hero in the channel’s new idents. My concept involved building the ‘E’ in the real world, a real physical model that would react with objects relating to the channel’s shows. We took the idea to the VFX Company, where they fleshed out the concept and developed scenarios for each of the five idents. The action was shot at ultra-high speed on the Photron with theirBOLT Cinebot and Milo motion control system.
